A Fun Day had by All
Published on September 2, 2009
In August of this year, Jigsaw4u teamed up with the Sutton Disability Partnership to organise a variety of summer activities for children and youngsters with disabilities from schools in Sutton.
Following on from the event, Sharon Maclaren offers her impression on the series of workshops and events; and how they helped make a positive impact for her son, James.
"Jigsaw4u made contact with me a few months ago to let me know of workshops and fun days being organised for disabled children, funded by the Sutton Disability Partnership as part of the short breaks programme."
"I jumped at the chance as life had been really difficult for my son since his diagnosis. Our first jaunt was to Sutton Arena to try out some different works shops, drum playing, drama and art. James had a great time particularly with the drama group, as he considers himself a bit of an actor, there were some young volunteers who were great with the kids and certainly made an impression on us. We were then invited to a water sports day at Wimbledon Park during the last half term. Words cannot express the pleasure I felt watching James sailing and canoeing and just having the best time, the same young volunteers were there and James was glad to see familiar faces. I met parents of other children enjoying the day and was able to sit and relax in their company sharing each others experiences. The day ended with children brave enough being allowed to jump in the lake, fully clothed. I never imagined that my son would have the confidence to do this, but he did."
"It's days like this that you want to cherish."
"I would certainly recommend other families going along and experiencing a great time, in a relaxed atmosphere with some great people."
