| Street children supported by a project in Sri Lanka - volunteers from Jihsaw4u International provided regular support groups and staff training |
|
In 2005 the children and young people of Jigsaw4u held a conference in which disabled, looked after and bereaved young people shared their experiences and enabled professionals to consider how best to meet the needs of similar groups. It was truly inspirational. At the end I was approached by the bereaved young people who asked to have the opportunity to encourage children affected by the tsunami. In august of the same year, we visited Sri Lanka and over 3 weeks worked with over 250 children, young people, their parents and professionals.
In December 2006, two of our volunteers committed a year of their time to work in Sri Lanka and have provided support groups, training and advice to projects working with street children and other children and young people affected by involvement in the sex trade, abuse and other losses and trauma
We are now developing partnerships with charities supporting mother and children in PERU, working with families affected by leprosy in NIGERIA and working with grief and the impact of AIDS and HIV in SOUTH AFRICA.
